Future of digital advocacy event
Thanks for joining our event.
From 11.15 - midday BST you'll be able to join one of a choice of facilitated discussions.
These will be run as individual Zoom meetings, where participants will be able to have camera on and unmute themselves to speak.
Just pick your preferred topic and click on the relevant link to join the correct Zoom meeting. Our facilitators will welcome you and guide the discussions.
Discussion topics
1. Better message-to-target actions
How can we create the most effective digital actions with specific targets? From making tailoring and personalisation easier, to more creative ways to deliver messages - how can our tactics evolve? Florian will kick off by sharing some possibilities, before opening up discussion.
Discussion hosts: Katie Roberts, Interim CEO of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation and Florian Engel, Co-founder and Managing Director of More Onion, makers of Impact Stack.
Co-host: Megan Poyiadzis, Events and Programme Manager, Sheila McKechnie Foundation
2. Design and form optimisation
Nothing makes as much difference as a great, well explained theory of change for your action. But once you have that in place, what are the design and presentation elements which make a digital action more effective? Share learning, testing and results.
Discussion host: Joe Derry Hall, Co-founder of We Could Even, a small creative digital agency working with charities to create campaign and supporter engagement actions, data visualisations and more.
Co-host: Lorena Lang, Mobilisation Expert at More Onion.
3. Engagement actions
What other ways can we offer supporters to become involved in campaigns beyond petitions and direct message to target actions? What's the role of interactive engagement actions in building a relationship with supporters? Share examples and results.
Discussion host: Claire Donner, Director of Mobilisation at More Onion.
Co-host: Dani Boobyer, Mobilisation Expert at More Onion.
4. MPs and mass mobilisation
How do MPs and members of the devolved parliaments deal with and respond to incoming campaigns, and how can campaigners work most effectively to connect supporters with their elected representatives? (This group will focus on the UK context. Group 1 will offer a broader discussion of email to target actions.)
Discussion host: Stefan Blakiston-Moore, Campaigns and Mobilisation Manager at Alzheimer’s Society.
Co-host: Greta Mauch, Programme Support and Communications Officer at the Sheila McKechnie Foundation
5. Targeting corporates
What works and what doesn't to influence corporate targets via digital tools? Share insights into plans and results for actions which lobby companies or non-governmental targets.
Discussion host: Alex Jones, Head of Programmes at the Sheila McKechnie Foundation.
Co-host: Ed Johnson-Williams, Client Care Manager at More Onion.
Discussion guidelines
These discussions will be held under the Chatham House rule: you are welcome to share things that are said, but without attributing them to an individual or organisation. Discussions will not be recorded, but we'll try and share top-line notes afterwards, so you can catch highlights from other groups.
Please help our facilitators by joining promptly, and staying with the group rather than hopping between topics. If you're struggling to decide on a topic, consider what you have to share, as well as what you want to learn.
To help the conversation flow, and everyone be able to follow and take part, please use the 'Raise hand' option to indicate you want to speak, and stay muted until the facilitator calls on you. Zoom will automatically create a queue so you can be called on in order. You'll find Raise/Lower hand in the Zoom controls at the bottom of your screen, possibly tucked in with 'Reactions'.
As usual, please speak with respect and courtesy; where there is disagreement, please focus on the subject matter and avoid making it personal. The facilitators reserve the right to remove anyone who is disruptive or hostile, in the interests of constructive discussion. If you would like to raise a concern please use the chat to directly message the co-host of your session, or email jess@more-onion.com.

We would be happy to show you the new version of our platform and explore how you can use it for effective online advocacy.
